Despite its recent entry into the agricultural sector, Harmoniz is backed by two seed companies with decades of experience and research. Officially founded in 2022, the company selected its first bell pepper hybrids for Almería greenhouses in the same year. By 2024, it introduced its first two commercial varieties: Bernabel in red and Bonáyar in yellow.

These peppers, recommended for late-cycle cultivation, have been showcased throughout this season in various field days, where Harmoniz staff have highlighted the qualities that are making them stand out to farmers and technicians, who have recognized the benefits of choosing these varieties.

Agronomic Value

Bernabel and Bonáyar are two bell pepper varieties that stand out for their consistent quality throughout the entire cultivation cycle, maintaining their size, good shape, and staggered production.

What sets them apart are their “high-quality fruits, with excellent color and size,” as well as the fruit set in the crowns, which “indicates a strong end to the cycle with highly marketable production,” said Mauricio Fernández, General Director of Harmoniz Ibérica. Bernabel, in red, offers exceptional fruit uniformity, with sizes ranging from 230 to 250 grams, making it ideal for flow-packing. Meanwhile, Bonáyar, in yellow, is notable for maintaining its vibrant color even when ripe, without turning orange.

In both cases, the consistent production of high-quality fruits is complemented by plants that are not excessively vegetative, allowing the fruit to be visible and facilitating the control of Thrips parvispinus, which has caused significant issues for Almerian farmers in recent seasons. Both varieties have shown resistance to powdery mildew.

Expanding the Catalog

“This is just the beginning,” emphasized Mauricio Fernández, highlighting the company’s goal to expand its bell pepper range to cover the entire cultivation cycle. “This year, we will introduce new varieties for early and early-medium transplants,” he explained. “Our aim is to cover the full planting cycle, from late June to mid-August,” he added.

Additionally, Harmoniz remains focused on the end market. As Fernández puts it, “We are a company that produces food,” and to succeed, it’s crucial to meet the needs of both farmers and marketers, while also keeping consumer demands in mind.
